With how blogging as revolutionised our generation as one of the main ways to express your views, its with no surprise that a lot of people are now blogging about a plethora of subjects.
Wether it be beauty, fashion, music, your day to day life or just personal interests, there are tons of ways to express your opinions in what can only be expressed as an online diary.
Choosing your blogging platform.
With a variety of subjects also comes a variety of platforms to host, personalise and write. Spanning from powerful & paid platforms such as Wordpress to Free, Flexible & arguably the most popular platform for bloggers, Googles own blogger.com
The choice is yours, but for arguments sake we will use blogger.
First navigate to www.blogger.com
If you already have a gmail, or if old school, googlemail account just simply log in here. If not go ahead and sign up - its not a massive list of forms, just enough to get you started.
Now to choose if you want this to be a personal blog or what we do ‘a blog with a mask’.
The information you provide with Google+ will allow your readers to see your basic info, or as much as you let them see at least and allow you and others to connect with each other, share your posts and interact a lot more, whereas a blogger profile is pretty simple, limited and really a shop front for your blog. Either way you can swap if you want!
Now time to choose your online name…
For example online sensations like Zoella use a nickname that fronts what is ultimately their whole online brand. Other notable bloggers such as Dizziebrunnett3 & UglyFaceOfBeauty all use nicknames / pseudonyms to front their blog.
You’re in, use your chosen name to title your blog, select a theme and start writing!
WAIT.
You’ve seen a blog and their is definitely a specific layout and design your blog should look like, but yours is limited and doesn't look too great.
If you are a computer whiz then you already no how to code a full template and design it exactly to a specification that will meet your needs. But if thats not the case / there is no way in the world you want to even contemplate learning how to do such witchcraft, here is a cheat.
Have a look at the bottom right hand corner of your favourite bloggers site, they may just have credited who actually made the blog. Our personal favourites at the moment are pipdig.co. A couple of aforementioned bloggers in this post use them for their own templates too! They have pre-made templates and will also make you a custom layout to your own idea and specification.
If you look a bit deeper you can find free ones on various other websites, but quite frankly for the price of a take away you could actually get the blog of your dreams, that will not only stand out but place you on the map!
Once your design has been nailed, get your content ready. Write a list of what you want to cover, reviews, your holiday, music, tech etc, etc and start writing. However, keep it up, once you have momentum you want to keep it up, people get bored easily, if they wait 2 weeks for another post, chances are they’ve lost interest in your blog. Its not personal, its just how things are.
In our next post we will be going into the world of youtube, setting up your own channel, uploading your video and starting to tie in other social media outlets into your blog!
